SUMMARY:Baum marker announcement celebration May 17 in Mattydale\, NY
DESCRIPTION:A grant from the William Pomeroy Foundation for a New York State Historical Marker has been awarded to the Lyman Frank Baum Foundation Inc. of Syracuse. A celebration of the announcement is planned May 17\, 2025\, on the grounds where the new marker will be placed. The Mattydale\, NY\, location is the site where Baum’s childhood home “Roselawn” once stood. \nThe Saturday\, May 17 ceremony celebrates the planned marker\, the 125-year anniversary of the book\, and the birthday of L. Frank Baum\, who was born May 15\, 1856. \nThe marker itself will be placed after completion of the Hoosock-Jensen Salina Community Center that is currently under construction. A Baum museum will be incorporated into the new center by the The LFB Foundation. \n  \n  \n

DESCRIPTION:Universal Pictures will re-release of The Wiz–the 1978 Oscar-nominated musical starring Diana Ross\, Michael Jackson\, Lena Horne\, and Richard Pryor–nationwide for screenings Sunday\, May 18 and Wednesday\, May 21. \nUniversal has restored The Wiz in 4K using the original 35mm negative\, the 35mm magnetic audio stems\, and both the 1” 8-track stereo music masters and 2” 24-track original music recordings. The new mix will be presented in select theaters\, offering an immersive Sonic experience that honors the brilliance of producer Quincy Jones\, the film’s Oscar-nominated music supervisor and producer.  \nDirected by legendary director Sidney Lumet (Dog Day Afternoon\, The Verdict) The Wiz was a daring and ambitious film that captured the spirit of Broadway show while reflecting the vibrant Black zeitgeist of the 1970s. Joel Schumacher\, who later went on to his own successful career as a film director\, adapted the screenplay from William F. Brown’s Tony Award-nominated Broadway book. \nAlthough we’ve linked to a news article below\, you’ll need to turn to local sources to find showtimes and ticket prices near you.  Fandango\, Atom\, or other multi-theater ticket sellers would be a good place to start.
