SUMMARY:Exhibit: The Land of Oz: Beyond the Page
DESCRIPTION:The Land of Oz: Beyond the Page  explores the imaginative artistry required to turn the classic children’s story into a beloved 1939 MGM movie. Divided into three sections—Writing\, Costume\, and Production Design—the installation reveals how the designers brought L. Frank Baum’s world to life. The exhibit fills two galleries on the Museum’s third floor. \nHighlights include a replica of Dorothy’s Ruby Red slippers\, an early draft of the script\, a prototype of the iconic Flying Monkey costume\, a character costume from Emerald City\, and a replica of the Cowardly Lion’s Badge of Courage. SUMMARY:Walter Murch: An American Cinematheque Retrospective
DESCRIPTION:The American Cinematheque welcomes filmmaker\, sound designer\, editor and author Walter Murch for a retrospective of some of the most iconic films from across his stunning multi-genre\, multi-role\, six-decade career. In addition to three in-person Q&As\, our retrospective culminates with a masterclass with Murch himself followed by a screening of APOCALYPSE NOW: FINAL CUT\, for which he won the Academy Award for Best Sound. \nReturn to Oz will be featured Saturday\, Jan. 25 at 7pm at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood. The accompanying Q&A with Murch makes this an extraordinary opportunity for Oz fans.
