Ryan Bunch joined the Oz Club at age ten and has participated in performances or given talks at regional and national Club events since his first Quadling Convention in 1986. He was honored to receive the 2015 Winkie Award at Oz Con International, and co-chaired Oz, the National Convention in Philadelphia in 2016.

ryan19optRyan is a musicologist whose work on American musical theater and children’s culture has been published in the journal Studies in Musical Theater and presented at conferences of the Society for American Music, the American Musicological Society, the Children’s Literature Association, the Popular Culture Association, the International Association for the Study of Popular Music, and the Association for Theatre in Higher Education. He teaches applied vocal performance at Rutgers University-Camden and has taught music history at Temple University, the Community College of Philadelphia, and Holy Family University.

Ryan has been a puppeteer, theatrical music director, composer, scriptwriter, and singing teacher and has written for Opera Philadelphia’s award-winning Sounds of Learning study guides.He has served on the board of directors of the International Wizard of Oz Club and is writing a book on Oz musicals. Since the fall of 2016, he has been a Ph.D. student in the Department of Childhood Studies at Rutgers University-Camden.
