What (if any) Oz books are you hoping to read this year?
I’m planning on at least Cowardly Lion of Oz (it is 100 this year) and maybe a re-read of Wicked since the movie is kicking into gear.

On my nightstand … Oz and the Musical by Ryan Bunch, Oziana 2023, The Road to Oz by Jay Scarfone and Bill Stillman, and The Cowardly Lion of Oz by RPT-

Was there a 1998 issue? It occurs to me maybe the reason I can’t find it is that there wasn’t one? -

I have! I prefer to keep my Oz light, with Gregory Maguire’s books being an exception which I think of more as moody. Dorothy Must Die for me falls into the “Dark Oz”…

I’m halfway through the first book. It can be jarring to read about our beloved characters taking such a dark turn.
I have read the first of the prequel novellas too, which I liked better and did help set up how Dorothy got on the wrong path. -
I did finish the Dorothy Must Die series. It was a little dark but I enjoyed it.

I don’t think mine would really fall under obscure or one-off, but of the characters introduced later on I really like Polychrome. I really need to read the books again though,

I forgot her name a while ago & it drove me crazy, had to look it up, I thought I dreamt it for a moment…definitely a great character… Shaggy Man too if I remember correctly was interesting

I actually really love his artwork a lot. I would love to see him tackle the original series in full.
I also thought his design work for Muppets Wizard of Oz was the only good thing about it.

He’s honestly one of the nicest people I ever met. I had the pleasure of interviewing him once & I could’ve spent hours just going over his career. So much of the films…

I know Muppets Wizard ran into issues with WB and gutted most of what they had. But Disney really has never figured out quite what to do with them.

Oz Books 3 years agoWhen I was younger & collected comics more, I used to come across an Oz comic from this company called Caliber (one of the publishers of The Crow). It was a black and white independent book, which at the time I planned on getting eventually but of course never did. I’ve heard good things but yet to track it down.

Thank you – those little condensed comics from the link are little cute – it’s amazing how much story is packed in such a small comic!
The Marvel comic adaptations are wonderful – I wish they would do more of them. We’re really robbed not to get Scottie Young’s adaptation of The Patchwork Girl of Oz!
