Description

Oz book #33! By Ruth Plumly Thompson, illustrated by John R. Neill.

Originally published in the year of the MGM classic The Wizard of Oz, Thompson’s final Oz book for Reilly & Lee is a reunion of sorts for the characters from the first book, with the Wizard gathering friends to demonstrate his newest invention, two magical airplanes called Ozoplanes. When the Soldier with Green Whiskers launches one of them accidentally, the Wizard sets out in the other one, with everyone arriving at the strange kingdom of Stratavania. Due to poor diplomacy on the Tin Woodman’s part, the ruler of this place seeks out to conquer Oz, while an accidental detour to Red Top Mountain, home of an army of bearded archers, sees the Wizard tasked with rescuing a princess! There is plenty of magic at work in this story that mixes fantasy with light science fiction.
