Description
Oz book #9, by L. Frank Baum, illustrated by John R. Neill.
After having given up writing Oz books with the sixth entry in the series, The Emerald City of Oz, Baum attempted to launch a new series of fantasy books starring a girl called Trot and her old sailor caretaker Cap’n Bill. Following their adventures in The Sea Fairies and Sky Island, Baum recorded their first trip to Oz in the ninth Oz book, The Scarecrow of Oz!
Escaping Pessim’s Island in the company of a featherless bird with a propeller tail called an Ork, Trot and the Cap’n alight upon the Land of Mo, where they reunite with their old friend Button-Bright, before coming to Jinxland, a remote part of the Quadling Country ruled by a wicked king. The Scarecrow comes to Jinxland to help out the visitors and assist Princess Gloria to take back the throne and restore her to her true love, unaware that operating behind the throne are the combined forces of the Wicked Witch Blinkie and the wealthy Googly-Goo, who wants Gloria to himself! With the Jinxland episode based largely on the film His Majesty, the Scarecrow of Oz, Baum successfully weaves several different elements into one story.
