Autumn 1974 Selected Contents
This is a guide to the articles and reviews from the issue that will most benefit researchers, scholars, and collectors. The printed issue includes additional content such as news, editorial letters, and other commentary-based departments.
The Faltering Flight of Prince Silverwings
Michael Patrick Hearn, David L. Greene, and Peter E. Hanff tell the story of L. Frank Baum’s 1903 intended stage adaptation of Mrs. Edith Ogden Harrison’s fairy tales. They describe the lead-up to the canceled production, summarizing the sole known copy of Baum’s stage play and noting how it may have inspired aspects of his Oz stories, including the characters of Polychrome and the Nome King.
How the Adventurers Lost and Found Themselves
A reproduction of one installment of L. Frank Baum and Walt McDougall’s Queer Visitors from the Marvelous Land of Oz newspaper comic page in 1904.
The Wonderful Land of Oz Library
Dick Martin examines the provenance of this issue’s wraparound covers: the box set in which Reilly & Lee sold nine “junior editions” of Oz books in 1939.
