Autumn 1995 Selected Contents
This is a guide to the articles and reviews from the issue that will most benefit researchers, scholars, and collectors. The printed issue includes additional content such as news, editorial letters, and other commentary-based departments.
Return to Oz Revisited
Marc Lewis interviews Return to Oz producer Gary Lewis about the creation of the film, its production, and the reasons it failed at the box office. The feature was written by John Fricke, Daniel Smith, and Tricia Trozzi. Includes many rare behind-the-scenes and pre-production photographs, as well as a page of storyboards for the Gump flight by Michael Ploog.
The Ozmapolitan
A facsimile of the four-page promotional “newspaper” produced by Reilly & Lee in 1970. This follows a facsimile of the 1904 edition in the Spring 1963 issue; the 1926 edition in the Autumn 1966 issue; the 1927 edition in the Winter 1977 issue; the 1963 edition in the Autumn 1983 issue; and the 1926 edition in the Spring 1988 issue.
The Oz Files
Patrick M. Maund examines two sequences that he feels lack the “internally consistent” logic of the Oz series: one from The Patchwork Girl of Oz, and one from The Hungry Tiger of Oz.
The Scarecrow to the Rescue
Writer William Lindsay Gresham recalls a time in his adult life when a chance rereading of The Scarecrow of Oz gave him great and unexpected solace. This essay was originally published in the Christmas 1960 issue.
Bibliographia Baumiana: Sky Island (1912)
Bibliographia Baumiana provides bibliographical details of non-Oz works by Baum, occasionally updating past articles alongside new ones. This installment, by Patrick M. Maund, examines Sky Island. Includes an original pencil sketch by John R. Neill. An earlier assessment of this title appeared in the Spring 1970 issue.
