Bell examines the The Enchanted Island of Yew for its centennial, including its emphasis on the passage of time, its unusual respect for traditional social stratification, its mythological overlap with other Baum texts, its adolescent focus, and its theme of transition from child to adult. Includes several illustrations from the novel.
Oz in Russia Since Volkov (Part 2)
Stephen J. Teller examines Magic Land books from Russia that have been published since March Laumer completed his long-running feature in Spring 1988. He provides detailed descriptions of Sergei Sukhinov’s Gingema’s Daughter (1997), Tales of the Emerald City (2000), and Goodwin, the Great and Terrible (2001). The article includes many examples of the illustrations from the books. The first installment of this article was published in the Autumn 2002 issue.
