The Mystery of Three Girls in Oz…and the Revisited Pleasures of a “Lost Princess”
Peter E. Hanff considers Baum’s frustrations as an author in the mid-teens, and his arguments with Reilly & Britton, which led to and eventually developed The Lost Princess of Oz. Hanff also documents both his childhood and adult responses to the events of this Oz story. This article is preceded by a brief introduction to the artwork for the newspaper series The Wonderful Stories of Oz, examples of which are then used throughout Hanff’s text.
Oz Under Scrutiny: The Lost Princess of Oz
Scott Cummings looks at reviews of The Lost Princess of Oz contemporary to its original publication. Includes vintage advertising.
“Lost” Princess—Different Adventure: Remembering Shirley Temple’s The Land of Oz
John Fricke looks at the “Land of Oz” episode of “The Shirley Temple Show,” describing his own childhood enthusiasm for it and revealing some aspects of its production and promotion.
Sarah Crotzer interviews Matthew Arnold, creator of NBC’s Emerald City, and discusses with him his love of the Baum books and his original intentions for the show. The interview is followed by a brief selection of reader responses to Emerald City as it was broadcast.
