Spring 1965 Selected Contents
This is a guide to the articles and reviews from the issue that will most benefit researchers, scholars, and collectors. The printed issue includes additional content such as news, editorial letters, and other commentary-based departments.
Mr. Tell-a-Tale of Oz
Bill Eubank describes creating and performing with his original Oz puppets. Includes photographs of his shows.
A Visit to John R. Neill’s Land of Oz
Judy PIke makes an enthusiastic argument for Neill’s three authored Oz books.
The Land of Oz, U.S.A.
Martin Gardner describes a visit to Mrs. Elgood Lufkin, a fan of Neill’s Oz work who wrote to and eventually met him. She and her husband were gifted an original Oz painting by Neill which is reproduced here. The Lufkins’ bookplate, which was designed by Neill, forms the basis of this issue’s cover art.
My Ruby Wedding Ring
A complete short story by L. Frank Baum, reproduced from his scrapbook and originally published in 1896.
Bibliographia Oziana
Dick Martin collates bibliographical data about the early printings of the Oz books. This installment focuses on The Road to Oz and The Emerald City of Oz.
The Oz Book Shelf
David L. and Douglas G. Greene‘s pioneering attempt to chronicle new editions of The Wizard of Oz published since 1939 (following the Christmas 1963 Bibliographia Oziana article). New installments of this semi-regular column would recur in every two to four issues until the Spring 1972 issue. Its focus would gradually widen from listings of new editions of Baum books to capsule reviews of new Oz- and Baum-related publications to, by the end, fully developed reviews. It was then succeeded by the Bugle‘s regular review department, The Oz Bookshelf, beginning in the Spring 1974 issue.
