Spring 1987 Selected Contents
This is a guide to the articles and reviews from the issue that will most benefit researchers, scholars, and collectors. The printed issue includes additional content such as news, editorial letters, and other commentary-based departments.
“Two Pictures”
An original poem by L. Frank Baum about the fine old game of baseball, reprinted from the Chicago Sunday Times-Herald on May 17, 1896.
The Dust Jackets of Oz (Part 2)
Marc Lewis continues his bibliographical description of first edition dust jackets, this time for Ruth Plumly Thompson’s first nineteen Oz books (published 1921–39). This article continues a project begun in Spring 1986. A final installment would be presented in the Winter 1989 issue.
Bibliographia Baumiana: By the Candelabra’s Glare—1898
Bibliographia Baumiana provides bibliographical details of non-Oz works by Baum, occasionally updating past articles alongside new ones. This installment, by Peter Hanff, examines Baum’s book of verse, By the Candelabra’s Glare.
John Fricke concludes his comprehensive two-part look at NBC’s Wizard of Oz radio series, which was broadcast over six months in 1933. This second installment provides details of the final thirteen weeks of broadcast. The first half of the article was published in the Winter 1986 issue, and a brief set of publicity photographs would be published in the Spring 1991 issue.
