Winter 1983 Selected Contents
This is a guide to the articles and reviews from the issue that will most benefit researchers, scholars, and collectors. The printed issue includes additional content such as news, editorial letters, and other commentary-based departments.
Oz in Science Fiction Film
Alan C. Elms looks closely at the influence of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz on such blockbuster films as Star Wars (1977), Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977), The Black Hole (1979), Tron (1982), and E.T. (1982), as well as more direct adaptation in The Wizard of Mars (1964), Zardoz (1973) and Time Bandits (1981).
Oz on Film
Marc Lewis attempts a comprehensive checklist of Oz-related films, including a few unfinished or projected projects that may never have been completed. The checklist would later be refined and expanded in the Winter 1993 issue, and an entirely new checklist would be presented in the Spring 2004 issue.
The Oz Report
Michael Korolenko and Leslie Johnson present a treatment for a documentary on Oz that would have blurred the lines between Oz in our world and the “real” Oz, with Ozma transporting an elderly Dorothy and the camera crew to Oz. Illustrated by Bill Eubank.
In Memoriam
Russell P. MacFall (founding member; president of the Oz Club, 1967–1975; and co-author, To Please a Child).
