This is a guide to the articles and reviews from the issue that will most benefit researchers, scholars, and collectors. The printed issue includes additional content such as news, editorial letters, and other commentary-based departments.
A Quiet Artist: The Life and Work of Dick Martin
Atticus Gannaway pens a comprehensive biographical narrative of the life of the fifth Royal Illustrator of Oz, Dick Martin, including details of his childhood, education, his involvement with Reilly & Lee, and of course his many years as editor of The Baum Bugle, convention auctioneer, and dryly witty stalwart of the Oz Club. Includes many illustrations and photographs, both within the world of the Oz Club and outside of it.
Grabbing the Brass Ring: The Writing of Merry Go Round in Oz
David Maxine tells the story of the inception, writing, and reception of Merry Go Round in Oz, which began with authors Eloise Jarvis McGraw and Lauren Lynn McGraw deciding they could “write a better Oz book.” Along with an analysis of the book’s writing, evidence is also presented as to why the Reilly & Lee series did not continue thereafter. Includes several photographs, illustrations by Dick Martin, and an example of an early draft.
Oz Under Scrutiny: Merry Go Round in Oz
Craig J. Noble looks at reviews of Merry Go Round in Oz contemporary to its original publication.
The Oz Illustrator
