Certified genealogist Pam Anderson will present “W. W. Denslow: The Wonderful Illustrator of Franklin County,” at the 12th annual meeting of Antietam Historical Association Wednesday, April 16. Denslow (1856–1915), a native of Philadelphia, is best remembered as the illustrator of the first edition of L. Frank Baum’s “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.”
Anderson will offer scenes from Waynesboro and Washington and Quincy townships from Denslow’s artwork in “Historical Sketch of Franklin County” (1878), accompanied by how they appear today.
During the social hour, Seth Holmes of Waynesboro will exhibit watercolors of local sites, and Anderson will display items related to her presentation. Also during the social hour, Robert S. Benchoff, a Marion P. Grove Fellow of AHA, will sign copies of his new book, “A Sketch of Mount Joy School.” Pianist Sally Wolfe will perform during the social hour at 5:30 p.m. and during dinner at 6:30 p.m.
The cost is $45 per person due by Tuesday, April 8. For more information, they also may call 717-762-2006 or email AHA at [email protected].
