Presentation: Writing L. Frank Baum into Fiction

Author Laura DeNooyer (A Hundred Magical Reasons, The Broken Weather Vane) will speak at the Herrick Main Library in Holland, Michigan, Sept., 8 as part of their Writing with History program. The series hosts local authors who use history as inspiration for their fiction.

A Hundred Magical Reasons is set near Lake Macatawa. The plot follows author L. Frank Baum, his friendship with a young girl, and the impact of that friendship across the decades.

Laura will talk about the joys and challenges of using history as a portal into fiction.

A Hundred Magical Reasons has won several literary awards from programs such as the American Writing Awards, The Bookfest, and Literary Titan. Most recently it was recognized with:

  • Second Place in the BooksShelf contest for Fiction (Sept 1, 2025)
  • Bronze Medal Winner in ReadersFavorite for Fiction-Historical-Personage (Sept 1, 2025)
