Philippines: Broadway Stars to Perform in “After Oz”
Two Broadway stars are set to transport Filipino audiences to the magical world of Oz in a one-night-only concert in July. “After Oz,” set in the same universe as the films The Wizard of Oz and Wicked, will be staged at the Samsung Performing Arts Theater on July 10. The event celebrates the theater’s fourth anniversary.
The production features Broadway stars Lissa De Guzman and Allie Trimm as Elphaba and Glinda, respectively. Audiences can “expect beloved show tunes, reimagined classics, and a touch of Oz-inspired magic,” the theater wrote in a Facebook page. The production is directed by Mikko Angeles with musical direction by Farley Asuncion.
It also features the After Oz Orchestra, Mari Dance, the University of Santo Tomas Singers, and singer Morissette as special guest. De Guzman is known for playing Elphaba in the Wicked North American tour, becoming the first Filipina to take on the role. Trimm has also taken on the role of Glinda in the Broadway staging of Wicked.
