Over the Rainbow with Judy Garland & The Enduring Iconography of the Wizard of Oz

Judy Garland’s legacy as an LGBTQ icon is deeply intertwined with her work, particularly in The Wizard of Oz, which serves as a narrative of self-discovery, acceptance, and the quest for a place to belong. “Over the Rainbow”, a song that was almost cut from the film, is a metaphor for a place of hope, resilience and a feeling of belonging where people otherwise feel they do not.
