The Oz Club has sponsored a fiction writing contest especially for TelsaCon, but our three annual contests will also be a part of our weekend. We traditionally display entries at our annual convention and announce winners as part of our Saturday program. This year, that means you’ll find them in the Oz Club breakout room at TeslaCon. You can find these contest details, including submission guidelines, on our website.
But here’s a quick look:
The Oz Club has been offering Art, Fiction, and Non-Fiction Writing Oz contests for decades. The prizes are named to honor three men who contributed significantly to our Club’s efforts to encourage new writers and artists to explore Oz expression. Cash prizes of $100 for first place, and $50 second place are offered in all three categories.
The Fred Otto Prize for Fiction looks for original Oz stories, poetry, and dramatic writing that is family-friendly, self-contained, and doesn’t exceed a maximum length of 10,000 words.
The C. Warren Hollister Prize for Oz Non-Fiction awards academic or scholarly research papers about Oz, its authors, illustrators, and other portrayals of Oz. Here, too, articles must be self-contained, and no more than 10,000 words.
Entries in The Rob Roy MacVeigh Prize for Oz Artwork contest can be any two- or three-dimensional piece about or pertaining to the Land of Oz. This can be a drawing, painting, sculpture, costume, or craft.
In addition to the possible prize, submissions are considered for inclusion in the Oz Club’s journal, The Baum Bugle, or our annual short-fiction anthology Oziana.
While we haven’t yet confirmed the time of day to best make prize announcements, we will make these announcements a priority on our Saturday schedule and share that when the agenda is finalized.
